A heat advisory in effect for Ann Arbor has been extended to 8 p.m. Friday by the National Weather Service. It had been scheduled to end at midnight Thursday.
With the extension, the heat advisory will be in place for 3.5 days in a row.
The forecast calls for high humidity and temperatures in the low to mid-90s through Friday, while nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-70s.
The heat index — which is a measure of how hot it feels — is expected to top out at about 95 to 105 degrees each day through Friday.
But cooler temperatures are on the way. The weather service says there's a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after midnight Friday, and those storms will be followed by cooler temperatures. Saturday's high looks to be a comparatively mild 79 degrees with a low of 52.
A number of organizations are welcoming the public this week to cool off in the air conditioning of their buildings in an effort coordinated by Washtenaw County Public Health.
Health officials are urging people to stay hydrated and out of the sun this week, as the continued hot weather will put people at risk for heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

There is but one way to spell relief, I fear: O C T O B E R. Tell me, if our average yearly temp is about 60, why can't it ever BE 60 (and not rain)?????

Did you ask the woman's permission before you posted that photo? Because she is pretty recognizable. There are much nicer ways of illustrating that it's hot, rather than post a picture that could cause embarrassment.

seems like only her friends would recognize her with her back turned. In any case when we walk out in public our expectation of privacy disappears. But I agree there are lots of choices for 'it sure is hot" pictures.
