Ypsilanti National, Lincoln Little League teams eliminated from state tournament
Two Ypsilanti-area Little League All-Star baseball teams saw their postseason runs come to an end recently.
The Ypsilanti National Little League 9 and 10-year-old team failed to advance from pool play earlier this week at the state tournament in Mattawan.
Ypsilanti, Taylor South and Commerce all went 1-3 in pool play, with Vicksburg winning the pool with a 3-0 record. Commerce won the tie-breaker to advance along with Vicksburg to the eight-team, single-elimination portion of the tournament. Kingsford and North Saginaw are playing in the championship game of that tournament today.
Ypsilanti's lone win was a 12-11 shootout over Taylor South.
Earlier, the Lincoln Little League 14-u team reached and lost in a best-of-three sectional tournament to Ash-Carleton Little League in the Junior Baseball State Tournament.
Teams from Midland and St. Clair reached the title game of that age bracket.
Lincoln had beaten Ypsilanti American Little League in the title game of its district tournament, scoring twice in the top of the seventh inning to win 5-3.
Four members of the Lincoln team -- Tyler Webb, Danny Sibert, Ryan Cannon and Zach Alliston -- were able to hoist a district trophy in their last year in the league.
