Two local youth baseball teams had strong seasons as did a 13-and-under girls basketball team.
THE MICHIGAN BLUE JAYS
The Michigan Blue Jays 16-and-under baseball team finished the season with a 40-3 record. The Blue Jays won the United States Specialty Sports Association state tournament in Battle Creek, Battle of the Borders Tournament in Florence Kentucky, Battle at the Capital in Lansing, the Beast of the East in West Virginia and were American Amateur Baseball Congress district champs.

THE MICHIGAN MUSTANGS
The Michigan Mustangs 13-under baseball team had a successful placed second in the state tournament and advanced to the American Amateur Baseball Congress World Series in Battle Creek the week of July 27. The Mustangs advanced to the division final. They are affiliated with the Kensington Valley Baseball & Softball Association. The boys are from Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Dexter, Milan and Saline and Ypsilanti.
THE YPSILANTI STING
The Ypsilanti Sting finished the summer basketball season with a 21-2 record in 13-and-under competition. The Ypsilanti Sting finished second in an American Youth Basketball Tour 13-and-under league, compiled a 21-2 record and competed in a national tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind.
