After five games, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson is the front runner for the Heisman Trophy.

He’s the nation’s No. 1 rusher and No. 3 quarterback. He’s engineered two game-winning drives.

He’s been named Big Ten offensive player of the week three times in five weeks, and national quarterback of the week twice.

Now Denard Robinson is the unanimous Heisman Trophy frontrunner.

In a poll of 13 voters conducted by HeismanPundit.com after week five, Michigan’s sophomore quarterback garnered all 13 first-place votes.

It’s the fourth week in a row Robinson held first place in the voting, but the first time he captured all the first-place votes.

Robinson earned a total of 39 points. Oregon’s LaMichael James held second place with 17 points while Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore took third place with 15 points.

On Saturday, Robinson compiled 494 yards of total offense against Indiana, leading the Wolverines to a 42-35 victory on the game’s final drive.

He carried 19 times for 217 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while completing 10 of 16 passes for 277 yards and three touchdowns against the Hoosiers.

Through five games this season, Robinson has rushed 98 times for a NCAA-high 905 yards, and eight touchdowns. He’s averaging 9.2 yards per carry.

In the air, he’s completed 69.8 percent of his passes (67-of-96) for 1,008 yards. He’s thrown seven touchdowns and one interception. His 180.0 quarterback rating his third in the FBS, only behind Auburn’s Cameron Newton (191.4) and Northwestern’s Dan Persa (184.6).

To coin a phrase by the great Keith jackson "Whoa Nellie" let's take it one game at a time, better yet one quarter at a time. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Rich Rod has everything under control here, and to think it will only get better next year and the year after. Getting the W's is priority #1. Go Blue beat Sparty!!!!!!

This offense is why RichRod was brought here, hard to defend when he gets the right q-back and fun to watch. Once we get a few more horses on defense (which we will because Denard has 2 more years and good players will start immediately), Greg Robinson will know what to do with them.

Loka- DRob is a great kid and a great talent, and to this point of the season is very well deserving to be the front runner of the Heisman race, however, there are sometimes tangibles such as underclassmen and team record, which leads me to your hypothetical... " Would it be warrented? ",RR Coach of the Year with M's 100 ranked D? If M wins 11 or 12 games this year with a young team; about 55 fmen, 30 soph, 30 jrs and 13 srs, lead by a soph QB, 2 fmen kickers and a young make-shift D that has to get better ASAP, if they can accomplish 11-12 wins or even 10, I know some fans may not be happy with it but that would make RR a strong candidate for Coach of the Year.

Hey guys, lets go out and win some games. THEN talk about awards!! We could lose the nest 6 as easily as we could win them!! Let's WIN!! GO BLUE!!

"As always though, the award seems to have to go to someone on a team with a very good record." My biggest gripe with the Heisman. I always hear "they don't like to give it to a freshamn or softmore etc" and garbage like that. If DR keep up this pace, he should get it if the team record was 0 wins. Most outstanding college football player...pretty obvious.

He has worked his "you know what off" to earn the staring job and has shown tremendous talent. If he can keep performing near the current level it would be hard not to award the trophy to him. As always though, the award seems to have to go to someone on a team with a very good record. I would bet that Denard would rather have an undefeated season and not win the Heisman than to go 8-4 and get it. That seems to be the kind of guy he is.

"RR would win coach of the year in a landslide." Well I can't argue too much with the eventual outcome as I am not super familair with the former winners and how they judge this award. Hypothetically though, I do hear what you're saying, although disagree with the "unprecidented" label. My only issue is, if they inmprove 6 or 7 games, pretty amazing, but how will the judging work if the coach has the 100 worst defense in the league. Again, I'm not an expert so i don't know how they look at that stuff. Of course if you're sitting there with a Natl. Champ, it may be hard to ignore. My next question is, hypothetically, what do UofM fans think about that? Would it be warrented? Would you even care? Greatr for the program noo doubt, but did he really earn it? Or just let DR loose on the world?

Loka - Granted, this is a pipe dream but let's talk hypothetically for a second. To go from 5-7 to 11-1 or 12-0 would be an unprecedented turnaround. RR would win coach of the year in a landslide.

"Another trophy upcoming. Coach of the Year: Our King" He should be the front runner for Heisman for sure. If he runs all over MSU than I'm just going to call National Champs right then. If he was 'squeaking' by bad teams like Indiana that would be one thing, but he's ripping off 70 yard tds like it's a joke. If he can stay healthy and keeps up even 75% of his pace it would be hard not to. As for RR being coach of the year, that's not even close. You could giove him credit for getting Denard to come to Michigan, but there's not much coaching going on. Defense is pathetic, and everything else is DRs talents.

So far he's had an amazing run. Look for his numbers to drop somewhat the next few games with two tougher defenses coming into town. But, I've been watching Michigan football since the mid-70's, and we've had a lot of great runners and offensive lines in that time. But, I've never seen a guy average over 9 yards a run for that many carries. And the 180 QB rating is incredible. I'm amazed there are two guys with higher ratings than him. IF he could win a Heisman, it would do wonders for not just him, but the whole program. You'd definitely see a big upswing in recruiting. Already, our offensive success has attracted interest from really good players that weren't previously looking at U-M. Go Blue and BEAT MS-Moo!

Love Denard. So what about defense against MSU?

Yes! Best offense in the country with the best player in the country equals Heisman trophy! If our defense improves, which I think it will, we could be playing on New Years day. Beat MSU and watch out, this season could become very special!!!

I hope the coaches are hunkering down and considering how msu and other B10 teams will try to corral DRob and adjust accordingly. His play is spectacular, almost 1000 yards already and with less than one quarter in one game. Kudos to the line for opening the holes and to the rest of the team who are doing a great job blocking down field. It has always been a requirement at Michigan that RBs and WRs must be good blockers, but I have never seen such tenacity as we see with this offense and DRob's quickness makes it work perfectly. I love the plays when DRob starts to run and the defenses react so much that receivers are open down field. No one should criticize RR, this offense is clicking better than any Michigan offense ever. But please, please fire up that defense. This team could be ranked in the top five if the defense has cut the scoring by half. We need four not three rushing the QBs and more blitzes because defense wins ballgames.

He is the most exciting quarterback I have ever seen play college football, we are privileged that he straps on a winged maze and blue helmet every week. A sample size of 13maybe small, but getting 100% of the 1st place votes is well deserved.

Great comments. I certainly hope we win a few more games before we talk about the Heisman. What a great kid!

So far, I agree that he's the front runner. The number are so gaudy, it's hard to deny. There is nothing gaudy about his personality and I agree with the others who have posted. his humility is refreshing. Let's hope he stays healthy and keeps helping the team earn "W"s. That high powered Rich Rod offense is here and I think Robinson already saved Rich's job!

I know you guys will hate to hear this but he reminds me a lot of Mateen Cleaves with his demeanor, the way hes always smiling and a great college player. Even if you guys stumble he is going to shatter records and win the Heisman. Most experts say you need to be 10-2 to win it. It will be a shame if you guys end up 8-4 and he crushes all the records and does not earn it.

Probably what I like the most about DRob is his humility, and his focus on THE TEAM!. When interviewed he will always bring the conversation back to his teammates. Let's hope he stays healty, and that this Michigan team takes all these distractions in stide, as they take each game, 'one at a time'. And, by the way, there are two oher VERY GOOD QB's on this Wolverine team, and all three of these kids will play a key role, before the season is over. There is plenty of time for the Heisman talk AFTER the season is done. Go Blue!
