Source: Michigan guard Manny Harris will announce decision Monday

By AnnArbor.com Staff

A source close to Manny Harris said the Michigan junior guard will announce his decision on whether or not to enter the 2010 NBA Draft on Monday.

Harris, who was fourth in the Big Ten Conference scoring this season at 18.1 points a game and fifth in assists at 4.1 per game, said in February that he planned to return to Michigan, but declined comment when asked the same question in March.

The source declined to say whether Harris was staying at Michigan or leaving. However, the Detroit Free Press reported Friday that Harris is planning on leaving Michigan, citing multiple sources.

Michigan spokesman Tom Wywrot said Harris met with Michigan basketball coach John Beilein on Friday, but he didn't know "the nature of what they talked about."

If Harris does declare and hire an agent, he would forgo his final year of eligibility. If he declines to hire an agent, Harris will have to decide whether or not to return to school by the NCAA early-entry deadline of May 8. It is the first year of a new early entry date.

In years past, players have had up until June 15 to decide whether or not to withdraw.

NBADraft.net does not list Harris in its 2010 mock draft, but has the former Michigan Mr. Basketball as the No. 38 pick in the 2011 Draft. ESPN has Harris listed as the No. 76 prospect for the draft and Draft Express has Harris going with the 55th pick to the Atlanta Hawks.

they should talk about looking towards East Lansing and wishing their team could play like the SPARTANS.

Manny should stay for his own good. Not for the team, but for his own development. He will be much better off with another college season under his belt.

Harris should stay. He had a less-than stellar season, especially in the 2nd half. That's a good reason he dropped from 1st team all Big 10 to 3rd team this year. 31% from the 3-pt. line is NOT NBA caliber, especially for a guard. Also, he often plays out of control. He needs another year to build his NBA stock back up. Otherwise, he costs himself a lot of money. Then again, I understand the risk of injury and all that - plus the team is probably going to stink next year. but strictly from the standpoint of where his game stands today, he needs another year. Just my opinion.

This doesn't look good. With Manny gone, it could help recruiting; some very talented young man knows he can start and get tons of minutes at Michigan. I still like Bee-Line as a coach, but he must recruit better. We should have won that game against OSU in the B10 tourney. What an incredible loss.

Down to #55. That is quite a decline from where people thought he'd be a few months ago. I would have said no question he should declare, but that was when he was a probably first-rounder. I guess it's all up to whether he believes in Beilein now.
