Michigan State savors Korie Lucious' winning moment; losing Kalin Lucas hurts

Grand Rapids Press columnist and reporter David Mayo says Lucious' basket also was good for the Big Ten. He writes:
The Big Ten Conference sent the most teams -Â three - to the Sweet 16, and two of them, the Spartans and Purdue, won here in storybook fashion with their best players injured.

I've been resigned to be a closet Spartan hoops fan since the days of Ellerbe. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

What we saw last night is an example of what it takes to win at the highest level. Izzo has MSU at a level that is consistantly clearly above and beyond other major programs. His players responded to major adversity (Lucas out, Allen mostly out, Roe playing beyond his injury and Morgan with a front tooth knocked out) with a win as a team. He seems to have his players gel at the right time and coaches the tournament like a master. Let's give it up to the toughest Spartan team we've seen since their 2000 championship team. I'm sure Beilien would agree.

I agree Sean... we really support and fight to protect our UM football... we think outsiders should not jump into our headlines to trash us verbally... let us not jump into their highlights... let MSU enjoy this as sports prominence can chance in a second (I'm not referring to anyone here). EVERYONE please attend the April 17 Spring Practice Game at the Big House and let our team and coaches know how much we appreciate them!!!!!

Please stop it! Don't we brag when we are on top? Every football argument we have we throw decades of prominent football in their faces. We also throw our great history at them because that's what we've built. So this what they have built and it is a prominent basketball program with a class-act coach and players who play hard for him. So let them have their bit of glory because it is due for Izzo. I'll turn will come around again.
