How many times do you think Tate Forcier was asked about his chances of starting under center at Sunday's Michigan football media/fan day?

Larry Lage of the Associated Press paid especially close attention -- like many -- to Forcier and his fellow hopeful quarterbacks, Denard Robinson and Devin Gardner.

Writes Lage, posted by Yahoo! Sports, "After posing for pictures with Robinson and Gardner, the returning starter said he didn’t know what his chances were to keep his job when he was peppered with the first of many questions."

Said Forcier, "It’s way too soon to tell. Coach Rod keeps it as open as possible, and I don’t think he’s close to a decision."

Huh? None of the three would or could start on maybe seven of the other ten teams. Gardner has real promise, though. Since this season is pretty much lost, might as well get him the experience so our next coach can use him. Since the offense regressed last season (same per-game point total in the Big Ten, but with more Rodriguez recruits in the offense), I don't see much reason to get excited. The defense was absolutely putrid the last two years, and lost a tremendous player in Brandon Graham. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, and this team does better than the 4-8 I think we're looking at.

Kids gotta deal with it...pressures and Media questions are part of any future pro athletes program. You got three QB's that could start on any team in the Big Ten....Devon is good but seeing him at the scrimmage game Saturday says he needs more work. Denard was great, but I was expecting that, and to tell the truth - Tate looked really good. I like Denard, but my feeling was - WOW, I am glad we have Tate! Please don't ask me about the 'D'...just that our offense should and will put up 42-48 a game.

By the way, Denard is clearly a better athlete, but maybe not the better QB. Tate has very likely improved as well.

RR will start Tate. Tate already has the job. Won the job last year on the field. If Tate struggles as a starting QB, then RR has "plan B" ready to go -- and it is a good plan. Same thing happened at MSU last season -- Cousins got the start over Nichol, as Cousins was Hoyer's only back-up in 2008. It took Dantonio a very long time to figure out that Cousins was really the first option at QB. Tate will start against UConn, but Denard will get loads of opportunity. Then we will see.....
