Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo and Indiana coach Tom Crean have been friends for three decades and they face each other again tonight, The Grand Rapids Press reports.

From The Press article:

When Crean was a student at Central Michigan University, he served as an assistant high school coach and went on some recruiting trips with Izzo. Later, his first full-time coaching job was with MSU, at Izzo’s recommendation.

When Izzo replaced Jud Heathcote in 1995, he rehired Crean and let him live in his home. Izzo stood in Crean’s wedding. And Crean received a 2000 national championship ring, even though he left before that season to become head coach at Marquette.
