Michigan field hockey tops No. 6 Michigan State; EMU cross country wins again and more results

Senior Zara Saydjari scored a goal in each half as the Michigan field hockey team beat No. 6-ranked Michigan State 2-1 Friday at Ocker Field, extending its win streak to seven games.

"I don't know what it is about Michigan State, but I always feel great every time we play them," Saydjari said after the game. "I have so much faith in our team when we play Michigan State and I don't know if it's because it is a Big Ten match, but something always feels right on those days."

Pioneer graduate Haley Jones made six saves in goal for No. 19 Michigan (7-4, 2-0 Big Ten), improving her personal record to 6-0. She made a key save late in the second half off a Spartan (9-2, 1-1) corner to preserve the win.

The Wolverines host No. 1-ranked Maryland at 1 p.m. Sunday.

VOLLEYBALL Michigan 3, Ohio State 1: Junior outside hitter Alex Hunt had 17 kills as the visiting Wolverines (14-1, 3-0 Big Ten) won their 12th straight match. After dropping the first game 24-26 in Columbus, No. 19 Michigan rattled off 25-17, 25-16 and 25-19 wins.

Eastern Michigan 3, Toledo 1: Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Iaquaniello had 27 kills and junior Ashley Mason contributed 51 assists in the Eagles' (16-3, 3-0) Mid-American Conference road win.

CROSS COUNTRY Notre Dame Invitational: The Eastern Michigan men's team won its third consecutive event, dominating the 16-team gold division in South Bend, Ind. Sophomore Terefe Ejugu finished second in 24:52.

WOMEN'S SOCCER Eastern Michigan 6, Bowling Green 4: Maggie Christensen's goal in the 87th minute capped a wild second half -- the teams combine for nine goals -- and clinched a MAC West win for the Eagles (5-5-2, 2-0-1). Stephanie Clark had a goal and three assists for EMU.
