Matt Millen will broadcast Michigan-Notre Dame game
Former Lions general manager Matt Millen will broadcast Michigan's Sept. 12 game against Notre Dame, ESPN publicist Mike Humes said in a conference call Tuesday.
Millen, who led the Lions to an NFL-worst 31-84 record in his seven-plus seasons as GM, returned to television last January, four months after he was fired in Detroit. He said at Big Ten football media days last month that he's not bothered by people who think his front-office experience makes him less qualified as a commentator.
“I played for a long time; we won Super Bowls," Millen said. "I was in television for a while and then I was on the other side, the management side of it, and didn’t have success. But that doesn’t diminish your ability to learn or your ability to see how things operate and don’t operate.
“All that stuff hopefully should (help me), at least to some level. But I know there’s going to be people who aren’t thrilled with it. I don’t know what I can do about it. Let me know.”
Millen will broadcast Saturday games on ABC this fall alongside Sean McDonough and provide studio analysis for ESPN's Sunday NFL coverage.

Maybe Millen's lagacy with the Lions is about to be repeated by Coach Rod at U-M and he wants to have a front seat at it's commencment!

Howard Cosell (in his current state) would be a better choice than Millen!!!

Again...The powers that be just don't understand how insulting to any Detroit Lion fan who maybe a fan of other teams in this state that this man is allowed to broadcast events that are marketed here!!! It is just one long continuing kick in the nuts that we have to put up with this man who outside of some of his playing days has shown he is noting but a giant idiot, but rewarded for his ineptitude with a national broadcasting contract. ONE LESS GAME FOR MICHIGAN THAT I'LL WATCH!!!

The guy has to work for a living. He was a good player. He is a good broadcaster. It was Lions management who made the mistake and hired him.

Turn the TV down and fire up Beckman & Brandy. The radio coverage is so much better.

Millen really stank. Made Lions draw a blank. Against ND I suggest that we Simply turn on Frank! (Beckmann, of course). -Theo Murdoch '09

84 losses...that's technically true, but shouldn't he get the last 13 losses of the 0-16 season?

Maybe he'll bring Irish the kind of luck he brought the Lions. Will he be the play by play guy or the color commentator? I'll have to tune my AM dial.

Zulu: 31-97 and 0-16...1-23 if you include a couple seasons Ghost: Millen is worse than clueless. JGS: if TV is on mute, you'll still see him and wonder how a giant head like that can house a tiny brain. Top Cat: for once, I agree with you. BOYCOTT ESPN

Like Billy Mays' Ghost says, either go to the game or flip on WTKA AM 1050 and put your TV on mute. He, along with the Fords ruined the Lions for many years to come. I'd rather not see his mug ever again. Take your Harley and ride back to California where you belong Matty.

You would think that ESPN wouldn't assign Millen to a high profile game in Michigan...but then again they hired him....
