  • Milan hasn't lost a season opener since 1993, but the Big Reds needed a shoeless kick return for a touchdown in their 25-24 win over Ypsilanti.

  • Skyline started off strong in its first-ever varsity game, but eventually was overwhelmed 64-26 against Hartland.

  • Saline did all its scoring in one quarter of the Hornets' 17-14 win over visiting Belleville.

  • Willow Run's Desmond Brown stands just 5-foot-2, but that's all he needed to rack up 186 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the Flyers' 34-25 win over Detroit PEC.

  • Dexter started the season on the right foot with a 37-16 win over Garden City.

  • Father Gabriel Richard's Dennis Olszewski rushes for 113 yards and picks up another 93 receiving in a 26-24 win over Lake Fenton.

  • Whitmore Lake was on the wrong end of a 75-8 drubbing at the hands of defending Southern Michigan Activities Association champion Stockbridge.

  • Lincoln was outgained 326-117 and threw five interceptions in a 45-0 loss at Mason. Ben Hinamanu and Saylor Lavallii each rushed for two TDs for Mason, according to the Lansing State Journal.
  • And here is a roundup of other sporting events held on Friday.

On Thursday, Manchester opened its football season with 38-23 a win over rival Clinton at the Big Day Prep Showdown.

The Big Day Prep Showdown continues at Eastern Michigan University's Rynearson Stadium on Saturday, with two games that involve Washtenaw County teams. Huron plays Chelsea at 5:15 p.m., followed by Pioneer vs. Detroit Cass Tech.
