AnnArbor.com's first installment of high school "Athletes to Know" for the 2011 school year features Skyline soccer player Jeff Robbins and Saline golfer Emily White.
School:Skyline.
Sport: Soccer.
Accomplishment: Robbins has captained the Skyline soccer team since his sophomore year and led the Eagles in scoring the last two seasons. Robbins didn't miss a beat to start his senior campaign, recording a a hat trick in Skyline's 3-1 victory over Petoskey at a tournament in Traverse City over the weekend. The Eagles finished 2-1 at the tournament.
Favorite athlete: Frank Lampard of Chelsea. "I like the way he plays. He’s not the best skilled, but he works the hardest."
Favorite music: T.I., Taylor Swift and Dave Guetta.
Pre-game routine: "I just stay talkative. It relieves stress and keeps the atmosphere relaxed," Robbins says.
Favorite class: Government.
Club team: Vardar.
Goals for the season: "The first one is to win the first game of districts, we’d also like to finish the season above .600,”" Robbins says.
School: Saline.
Sport: Golf.
Accomplishment: White shot an 80 to finish third individually at Monday's Mason Invitational, leading Saline to a third-place team finish. White played on Saline's state championship team as a freshman and over the summer beat teammate Karla Gross to win the Herb Fowler Memorial Junior Championship at Huron Hills.
Favorite athlete: Her brother, Andrew White, a junior baseball player at Saline. "He's a really hard worker," White says.
Favorite Music: Big Sean, Sam Adams, and Wiz Khalifa.
Favorite class: Chemistry.
Favorite course: The University of Michigan course, though White admits she's an Ohio State fan.
Favorite club: Putter (Bettinardi).
Goal for the season: "Make and place top 10 (individually) at states and for the team to make states and do well," White says.
