"Chelsea is our rival, and they played us tough in the first game," Dexter coach Don Little said. "We were able to grind out a win."

With the two wins, Dexter clinches second place in the Southeastern Conference Red Division behind Tecumseh.

"It's not as nice as winning the conference, but we were in the running, and we know we are a good team," Little said. "We didn't make any major mistakes, and we hit the ball well in the second game."

It took until the last inning to secure, but Ypsilanti Willow Run's baseball team scored four times in the fifth inning to pull off a 12-2 and 5-3 doubleheader sweep of Detroit Community on Monday.

Willow Run (10-8 overall, 7-2 Michigan Metro Athletic Conference) has a chance to share the conference lead on Tuesday with Detroit Consortium when the two teams face off. Consortium has only lost once in MMAC play.

Down 3-1 in the fifth inning, Willow Run's Tyler Brooks tied the score at 3-3 with a two-run double. An infield hit got him to third, and he was sacrificed home to put Willow Run up 4-3. Chris Bobo's RBI single provided some insurance.

"We've won eight games in a row now," Willow Run coach Blake Nordman said. "We're playing extremely well. Our athletic director instituted a new rule that if you miss an hour of class, you're not allowed to practice or play in the game that day and I think that's instilled discipline and expectations that have helped us."
