Heading into its district semifinal, the Pioneer High School girls basketball team already had Skyline’s number twice in 59-17 and 53-26 routs earlier this season.
The Pioneers added a third Wednesday, a 61-15 victory over the Eagles in a Class A district semifinal.
The host Pioneers (19-3) marched out to a 25-5 first-quarter lead over the Eagles (0-21) and never looked back. Emma Brann scored Pioneer’s first six points before fellow senior Kamilah Carter took the reins, making all three of her 3-point attempts in the quarter. The duo combined for 28 points, with 15 from Carter and 13 from Brann.
“I thought the game would be a little bit tougher. The last time (Skyline) played here, they played us tough,” said Pioneer coach Crystal Westfield, whose team led 46-12 by halftime.
Perhaps the root of Skyline’s induced jitters was the fact that it was playing in its first varsity playoff game.
