Writes Henning, "Rich Rodriguez's peril is that the Illinois and Purdue scores — and the five victories preceding them — could seem like ancient history if the Wolverines can't at least hang with Wisconsin and the Buckeyes during the waning days of November."

The Bighouse is the largest stadium until Texas A&M finish their stadium. The swamp got their name because of how low the seating goes down to the field. You can basically step over the wall and onto the field. They are also very close the field. Since swamps are "low-lands" and there are a lot in Florida "The Swamp" is fitting.

@ tOSU, Keith Jackson did create the moniker. @GoBlueinPA: Michigan Stadium CURRENTLY has the largest capacity, and is in fact (according to Wikipedia) the third largest stadium in the world, behind stadiums in South Korea and India.

@OSU I believe the "Big House" moniker was hung on it by Keith Jackson. If you remember back in the olden days (the 70's), Michigan Stadium was the largest on campus stadium in the country, by a quite a lot. Even the "Shoe" at the time was around 70K to 80K in capacity.

We're still chasing roses; Not so for the Blue. But in less than two weeks We'll meet in the 'Shoe. Detroit News dissed you guys, and even the Big Ten. When that guy's contract is up don't renew it again. Your chances at Wisky are a longshot at best. Then seven days later you challenge "The Vest." I love "The Game," be it sun, sleet or snow. You may help us earn roses. the scoreboard will show. But for roses to bloom the Badgers must fall. So good luck 'ganst Wisky, each one and all. SERIOUS QUESTION TO KNOWLEDGABLE MICHIGAN ALUMS: Why is Michigan Stadium called, "The Big House?" Obviously, Ohio Stadium is shaped like a horseshore. Hence, the nickname. I've never been to Florda's "Swamp," but given what I think of SEC FB, the name is appropriate. To most people, "The Big House" is slang for a prison. How did your nickname come about? What's the history?
