AP Top 25: Kansas, Michigan State keep top spots
Michael Rothstein's take: Basketball had some marquee matchups in the second real week of the season, so a bunch of movement in this week’s Top 25.
The biggest shaker was Syracuse, which went from unranked all the way to No. 12 after knocking off both California - which fell out of the poll - and North Carolina, which dropped from No. 4 to No. 15. Tennessee also made a big move up from last week, from No. 15 to No. 8.
Yes, the Orange lost to Division II Le Moyne, but they looked like a team capable of playing in the Final Four last week.
Besides Syracuse, I added Maryland, Memphis, Gonzaga and Georgetown to the Top 25 replacing California (No. 16), Dayton (No. 17), Siena (No. 21), Oklahoma (No. 23) and Georgia Tech (No. 24). Why Memphis and the Zags, both of whom lost last week?
Simple - both teams played the nation’s top two teams really close away from home. They impressed me, so they get in this week.
