AnnArbor.com's Lost & Found Pets
Welcome to our new feature, AnnArbor.com's Lost & Found Pets.
Â
Let me fill you in on how this works. At the beginning of each week, we will post a current Lost & Found report featuring some animals on the Humane Society of Huron Valley's (HSHV) website.
If you e-mail me with information about a pet you've lost or found - and a photo if you wish, we'll post it here in the weekly entry. We'll also provide updates during the week about owners and their pets who are reunited.

Jan. 12 - Found: Tuxedo kitten in Whitmore Lake area
From Jeanette Munro: This kitten (or small cat) was crying outside our house for a couple of nights and we could not catch him. The neighbor's dog finally assisted and chased him into a tree where we were able to catch him with a ladder. He is very affectionate, vocal, well-fed, clean and litter-trained, so he belonged to someone. We have had him about a month now--and he has integrated well into our dog and four-cat household. But, he is such a cute little guy, I still think his owner might want him back. I believe he is neutered. I haven't taken him to the vet to be scanned for a chip. We live in Whitmore Lake in the Six Mile Road/Horseshoe Lake area. Contact Jeanette Munro at (734) 623-1929.
You'll also want to check with HSHV. If you live in Washtenaw County, your lost pet may be taken there. HSHV offers many ways to make sure you are reunited with a lost pet. They offer the following suggestions:
- Call HSHV at (734) 661-3545 to file a lost or found report.
- Post a photo and contact information about your lost or found pet at www.hshv.org.
- Visit the HSHV and look for your pet at least every other day.
Remember, by state law, a stray pet is held a minimum of 4 days - 7 days if the pet has a collar or microchip/tag. After the hold period, the animal is evaluated for adoption. HSHV attempts to place animals with adoption potential that are too young or need rehabilitation in the foster care program.
There is no time limit or expiration date on adoptable animals at HSHV. An animal may remain there as long as it is healthy, temperamentally sound and there is room for it in the shelter or foster home program.
Here are some of the lost and found pets on the HSHV website:

Great idea! I agree with E G-get those pets spayed and neutered, there are plenty of low cost programs out there.

I think this is a great idea. For the photos, however... this week it's pretty obvious which photo goes which which description but if you had more lost cats listed it might get confusing. Is it possible to put captions on the photos or somehow more clearly delineate which photo goes with which description (maybe by separating each with a line)?

Thank you for bringing back the lost and found section. I lost a cat in November and although I put up ads on Craigslist and HSHV, and even Mlive, it would have been nice to have this website available. So again, thank you AnnArbor.com!
