Today could be hotter than Tuesday, National Weather Service warns; heat advisory still in effect
Editor's note: This story has been updated with additional forecasts and information.
If you thought Tuesday was hot, brace yourself. Today could be the second day in a row of record-tying heat in Ann Arbor. A heat advisory remains in effect until midnight tonight, and forecasters predict today’s high could reach 96 degrees.
If it does, it would tie the record high in Ann Arbor for this date, set in 1933. That would follow yesterday's record-tying heat of 94 degrees, said University of Michigan weather observer Dennis Kahlbaum. The June 7 record of 94 degrees was also set in 1933. The National Weather Service recorded a high of 95 degrees in metro Detroit Tuesday.

The hot weather Tuesday contributed to a power outage that knocked out service for about 3,000 DTE Energy customers. Power was restored by this morning, DTE said.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment has also declared today an ozone action day. Pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy range for sensitive people.
People and businesses are urged to avoid activities, which lead to ozone formation. Those activities include refueling vehicles or topping off fuel tanks, using gasoline powered lawn equipment and using charcoal lighter fluid.
The National Weather Service said heat index values early today will already be around 80 degrees and are likely to climb to 100 as the day wears on.
Strenuous outdoor activity could lead to heat injuries such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion or heat cramps, the weather service said. Those prone to heat stress should take precautions.
The weather service advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas, avoid the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Learn to recognize the signs of heat stress and heat stroke.
Temperatures will moderate Thursday, with highs in the 80s. The cooler weather will come with a chance of thunderstorms.

Record snow in winter, record rain and cold in the spring. Now record heat in June. Guess we are making up for the endless perfect days we had last fall in September and October!
