Suspected gunman arrested in fatal shooting in Ypsilanti Township; third suspect still being sought

By Amalie Nash

The suspected gunman in a fatal shooting at Schooner Cove Apartments in Ypsilanti Township has been arrested, Washtenaw County sheriff's officials said this morning.

The man's arrest, which occurred overnight in Ypsilanti, means two of the three suspects being sought are now in custody, sheriff's spokesman Derrick Jackson said.

A third man also is being sought in connection with the shooting, which occurred at about 8:23 p.m. Saturday in an apartment in the 5000 block of Bosuns Way.

Jackson said late Saturday that the 28-year-old victim and the suspects knew each other, although the motive for the shooting wasn't known. The identity of the victim, who was an Ypsilanti Township resident, has not been released.

Jackson identified the third man being sought by police as 22-year-old Keywone Jarvis Walker of Ypsilanti. Walker is described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Police said the three men fled in a vehicle after the shooting, which occurred in an apartment belonging to one of the victim's relatives. One of the suspects — a 22-year-old Ypsilanti Township man — was arrested a short time later, and the suspected shooter was located at about 1:30 a.m., police said.

Those men remain in the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment.

Jackson said no additional details are available this morning.

The apartment complex is located off Huron River Drive, east of South Huron, on the edge of Ford Lake. The apartment where the shooting took place is on the western edge of the complex.

Anyone who has information on the shooting or Walker's whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's tip line at (734) 973-7711 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP.

I have known Keywone and Willie (Tuck) for years, they are horrible people and I am happy they are going to be spending their lives in prison. I just wish that 3 years ago when these two beat my boyfriend for 20 minutes straight trying to kill him, that the police would have charged them and found them. Maybe they wouldnt have been around to shoot this man. My prayers are with the family of the victim.

some of those comment on this site like, "just clean the streets up Michigan" sure if it really was that simple if only the troops could come home and we could have world peace. violence is the way of the world so we most just change the world.

@ Kathy you said it great! @ Malorie once it is online its there for everyone to see regardless of settings, furthermore if thats what it took to bring him to justice, then so be it! I am one of Jason Hoovers friends and yes I looked at the page and so did my friends and family and we have not harassed anyone on his page or anything like it, why because we are not immature nor are we animals like those who would take a life for a few hundred dollars. It really bothers me that you would turn such a tragic event into an issue about someone who caused the tragedy, if you saw the story from today than you know he was charged with many crimes including murder, and I am confident that he and his accomplices will spend the rest of their lives behind bars, its just to bad we dont have the death penalty and my tax dollars will pay for them. First rule you teach your kids as well as live by your self is...no matter what the settings are, you "put it out there" it is going to be accessible to those that want to see it. No problem for the A2news posting that link IMHO. I wish they'd post more links- especially when there are tribute pages and such. Some of the stories are so haunting that I keep looking for updates. While the news may have moved on, the lives forever changed have not. These are people that live in our community- and as a community supporting people during times of pain is the very least we can do. My heart breaks for all involved-the moms, dads, kids. Forever Changed. Sad.

beaumont_slave - I live in a world where if I set my myspace or facebook to "PRIVATE" I expect that a responsible news agency won't use it. It is fine IMO if any of you went to facebook to search for him, but for a2.com to publish it without his permission is a different story. Now, even if this guy is found innocent or isn't charged with anything, he and his FB friends can expect plenty of harassment from bored Ann Arborites and Ypsituckians.

Umm did you even look at his facebook page? He's the stereotypical gangster thug. My point is this is a violation of privacy not only on his part but on the part of all of his friends who are now subject to harassment for befriending a thug. The link serves absolutely no purpose other than to give aggressive people an avenue to harass him and his friends. He hasn't even been convicted. This is tantamount to listing his phone number in the article so we can call him to give him our thoughts. Just knowing that if I was in a news article for whatever reason, my facebook profile will be shared even if I obviously have set it on "private" is upsetting to me.

Murder continues to baffle me. I wish the Sheriff's office success in their pursuit of this... accessory, and I wish the family and friends of this victim well.

What a shame once again another young person gunned down for what? And three young men ruin there lives. As a country,a state, a community and as parents we are not teaching value of ife and the consequences of our actions. We are allowing and excusing actions in our children that need to be disciplined. We are not allowed to discipline our children nor are we allowed to let God into our schools. We need to take back our country and our youth or we will continue to bury oour children due to violence. Clean it up Ypsilanti and every other city and state in our country and tolerate nothing! Everyone reading this knows exactly what I mean as the druggies own this community!

@stefanie murray---all of my comments were removed. NONE of them placed blame for the murder. ALL were on topic. NONE of them involved speculation. What I did was state proven facts about the victim, and responded to posts which WERE based on emotions and NOT facts. If you want to go by your rules, 9 of the comments that preceded your comment should have been removed per your terms.

Everyone needs to realize that a living breathing human being was murdered, He had a daughter, friends and family who all loved him very much. @ stevek, REGARDLESS of his record he did not deserve this! For you to say that it only PROVES your ignorance. Have you never made a mistake? And no matter the circumstances surrounding this MURDER, which is what it was, a good man, with a good heart was killed, and a little girl will grow up without her Daddy, a mother will bury her son, and many other people will have this pain in their hearts forever. If these killers had worked for their own money, instead of taking it from him, we would not be having this conversation.

Murder is still illegal and you just can't go around killing everybody who has a record or just because they made you mad. This is a life changing event there are no second chances.

Do we know who the victim is yet? Do we know who the two arrested are yet?

Lets all wait and see the whole story, because with what I know about Schooner Cove, there has been many drug related events there......and if we knew the name of everyone involved it would be interesting to look it up on OTIS and see if there are any records for the assailants and the victim......

A nice young man has lost his life! People are thinking about the damage to the neighborhood and stereotypes. The victims of this tragedy are real people! Murder is illegal and so is being an accessory. Color and zip code are not the issue here. If info is needed to bring this tragedy some justice you would think that cooperation would be something this area would consider, but heck maybe next time it's your kids - bet you'll take it serious then.

They all deserve to rot. Any "man' willing to take a life.. deserves to have their life taken away from them! The victim, I know, has a baby girl & now the chance for her to have a father has been taken away from her. I have no pitty on these lowlifes & all my love goes out to the victims friends & family. xoxox

@steve/clara: The stereotype is of a guy who goes out of his way to advertise the fact that he lives outside of our society and has no respect for society's rules. The fact that he appears to be stoned out of his mind and has tattoos on his hands gives that away. Being arrested for murder doesn't help either.

@Malorie Or that suspected murderers like Ronald Reagan? Come, give it a break, i is his facebook page, not one created about him.

@Malorie---what stereotype is being perpetuated? Is it the stereotype that an accomplice to murder usually has a mustache? Is it that they like white shirts? Please do tell.

Wow! A link to his Facebook page in the article??? Sounds a bit intrusive, but if it actually serves some kind of purpose I guess. (Not sure what the purpose could be other than perpetuate a stereotype...There's only one photo available to view on his profile which is hard to see compared to the great photos provided in the article. His profile is "private".)

how sad --- this was a nice place at one time and there are GREAT neighborhoods to the east on Huron River Drive... good work to the sheriffs for catching these criminals - we need to keep this area safe!
