Police and volunteers were combing Eberwhite Woods Friday afternoon in search of Jill Fine, the 39-year-old Ann Arbor woman who went out to walk her dog Thursday night in a nearby neighborhood and never came home.

As of 4:45 p.m. Friday, Ann Arbor police Det. William Stanford said the search continues, but there was nothing new to report.

Fine's husband, Jonathan, told AnnArbor.com in a phone interview that he is holding up as best as he can.

"There's so many things that could have possibly happened," he said. "I try not to think about it. It's too frightening to think about the possibilities. My mind goes to pretty dark places when I think about it."

Fine is known in the community as a popular former teacher at Burns Park Elementary School. Jonathan Fine said she hasn't taught in the Ann Arbor school system for two years, but is is well loved by former students.

"She is a really warm person," Jonathan said. "All her students loved her."

Fine said his wife left to go on a walk with their beagle, Bailey, Thursday night around 9:30 p.m.

"It doesn't look like she intended to go on a long walk," he said.

He became concerned when she didn't come home and started looking for here around their neighborhood. The Fines live on Dartmoor near West Liberty Avenue.

Jonathan Fine said Jill liked to run and bike in the nearby woods, so he bicycled there to look around, but wasn't able to locate her. He contacted police.

Jonathan Fine said he found Bailey Friday morning in a neighbor's back yard.

"I thought Jill would be OK if we found Bailey," he said.

Police continue to investigate. Check back to AnnArbor.com as more information becomes available.
