An FAA investigator examines the wreckage of a plane crash in Pittsfield Township Friday, while a police office looks on.
The plane, a neon green experimental aircraft built from a kit, crashed in the back yard of a home in the 7000 block of Warner Road in Pittsfield Township on Friday morning. Pittsfield Township firefighters freed the couple from the plane wreckage.
A neighbor had waved to the couple moments before the crash as they flew over their home just east of Saline.
Federal Aviation Authority records show the plane is an Aeros Sky Ranger II, a fixed-wing experimental aircraft. The manufacturer is Aeros LTD/Skyranger Aircraft Co. It is registered to Richard Rochefort, who lives on Partridge Way, not far from the crash site. Records show the plane was manufactured in 2006.
The FAA is investigating the crash, but spokesman Tony Molinaro said the agency would have no information until the investigation is complete, weeks or even months from now.
