Recalled beef was sold at Ypsilanti Sam's Club
Sam's Club stores in Michigan and 18 other states sold the beef that was just targeted for recall, according to an updated report on WXYZ-TV.
Among the affected stores, according to the report: Ypsilanti, Canton and Jackson.
According to a report on AnnArbor.com from about noon Monday, at least three other major grocery store chains recalled some of their ground beef packages because they could be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
Some of the meat had been distributed through a Detroit packing center, the Associated Press has reported.

Isn't it wonderful that Sam's Club will allow a customer to return THEIR E.coli for a FULL refund? Hope you saved your receipt!

Dear David, National Beef is the company that sent us the product. We were made aware of the recall and pulled everything accordingly. If a manufacturer made a defective baby crib and supplied it to major retailers, would you then blame the retail store for the crib or would you blame the manufacturer? The testing that is done at Sam's Club is a cold chain process. We have no way of analyzing bacteria nor does any other retailer to my knowledge. This is why we rely on the Department of Agriculture to promptly let us know about any problem there might be. Because we are a membership warehouse we have records of your purchases and if you can't find a receipt, we can. Please don't hesitate returning because of that. We are now restocked and ready for business. Hope to see you soon.

@applehazar -- The dates were included in yesterday's report. http://www.annarbor.com/news/beef-tainted-by-e-coli-was-distributed-to-detroit/

Dates on when the recalled beef was sold would be a great help. Kind of an obvious question - but I don't see any reference in the copied article.

Costco tests all of its meat shipments. Should there ever be a recall on any item, Costco calls each and every member who received the recalled product. I hope everyone is OK and not effected by the e-coli, and no doubt Sam's Club will gladly take it back. Can'd do too much testing...

Dear Monica, please bring your receipt to us and we will gladly refund your money. Our sanitation practices are held to the highest degree, and we truly take all recalls quite seriously. I have worked in this meat department for many years and I am also the one who immediately destroyed all of the affected product. Please understand that our company had nothing to do with this issue. We have suppliers that send our meat products to us. Cases of course ground beef are delivered to us six days a week. We grind them again for packaging. We NEVER use trimmings as this COULD potentially become a safety as well as a legal issue. We know that when our grinds come in it will definitely be 80/20 or 90/10. That is the beef to fat ratio. There is no guess work as the government agencies have already checked them to determine this. Most retail establishments as well as your neighborhood butcher also use these same products. I hope I've helped clear this up, and please stop by and visit me.

Is Walmart/Sams Club now importing meat from China?

Bob, the Federal Government has a nationwide law concerning Country of Origin Labeling for not only beef, but every meat and fish product that is sold in the United States. You will find the country the product came from right on our price label. So far, none of our beef has ever come from China. USA, Canada, and sometimes Mexico are the only countries I have seen at our store. I'd be happy to show you if you'd like to stop in.

Sams' ground beef is expensive, typically at $2.99/lbs. That isn't even a deal without the e-coli. At those prices you can buy locally ground beef. There's just no reason beef should be ground anywhere other than on-site. Know your butcher!

Yikes and Sam Club's charges huge prices for their "mega store" sized packages of meat. What should a local shopper do if they have purchased tainted hamburger from Sam's Club? Maybe, take it back to the store?
