Zombie Apocalypse! fund raising event exceeded goal

By Daniel Brenner

A crowd gathered for Zombie Apocalypse! at Arbor Brewing Company at 114 Washington in Ann Arbor, to sample some beer, throw some darts, and witness a zombie flash mob on Saturday. The Book Industry Charitable Foundation held its first local event to raise money for book store employees in times of crisis. It was a zombie themed fundraiser.

"When planning, we wanted to create a fun event and zombies are hip and cool right now," Executive Director Pat French said. She explains the fundraiser far exceeded her expectations.

They hoped to sell 75 tickets. French says they sold about 120.

"I saw a lot of unfamiliar faces," she says. "Which is phenomenal."

We hope to maintain our Ann Arbor roots as well as attract a broader, book industry related crowd, French said.

The organization's goal was to raise $5,000. Before totaling individual donations and money from the silent auction, they collected $7,500 through corporate donations.

There was a zombie 5K somewhere up near Whitmore Lake I think. I know it was in this area. I wonder how well they did. They too were looking for volunteers. Maybe next year. Great pics.
