The National African American Parent Involvement Day took place at Lincoln High School on Tuesday.

The event, which began in Ann Arbor in 1995, is now celebrated in 47 states and a number of countries.

It is scheduled to occur annually on the second Monday of February, but was postponed this year due to weather conditions. The event was founded by Joseph Dulin, former principle of Roberto Clemente Student Development Center in Ann Arbor.

"Education is the key to success and parents are educators greatest allies," Dulin says.

NAAPID is sponsored by several schools in Washtenaw County, and the student talent competition showcases a variety of performances by a wide range of age groups.

Thanks for everyone's interest in the story. I'm happy to work in a community where so many people care about their local events. Anyone at NAAPID could tell you it was an overwhelmingly successful night. Filled with entertainment and culture. I hope the gallery conveys that. I included the image of the Milan student on the ground because it is a true, honest moment. I believe there were technical issues with her microphone during her performance and she was disappointed with how it sounded. I try to tell the truth in every story, not just the smiles and laughs. Just as if frustration were to happen on a football field or during a spelling bee, these moments happen.

I second that,Pumpkin lady. This picture needs to be removed immediately. How did the photographer/writer even know that she was disappointed? Without the caption it just looks like she is tired and her feet are sore from the high heels.

I don't understand why Mr. Brender thought it so important to show a student from Milan High School sitting on the floor in the hall after a disappointing performance. There were so many good things that went on that night he surely could have found something else to take it's place. I am disappointed in this news paper for letting something like that happen.
