Mickey Weller of Saline remembered as 'ultimate hostess' and Weller's Carriage House founder
Iris (Mickey) Weller is best remembered for her generosity as a hostess as well as being one of the founders of Weller's and Weller's Carriage House in Saline, a popular wedding reception spot that is on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
“She was the ultimate hostess,” said Susan Keezer, who lived next door to Weller. “She was just a wonderful person and a wonderful cook.”

Welle's Carriage House in Saline is a landmark business along Michigan Avenue.

According to her obituary, there was a sign on her table that read: “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers. For thereby you may have entertained angels unaware.”
And this was how she lived her life, friends said, never turning anyone away.
“She always had a big smile, welcomed anyone who showed up, and invited them to stay for dinner. She joked that ‘I never knew who would be there in the morning for breakfast,’” Keezer said.
Born in Detroit on July 29, 1924, Weller is survived by her husband, Carl Weller, a former POW.
In1966, Weller and her husband, Carl, purchased the the dilapidated Henry Ford mill/plant on Michigan Avenue in Saline after seeing it while on a Sunday drive, according to her obituary. Friends and family helped the couple refurbish the buildings and they were turned into a popular spot for special events.
Even though Weller suffered from dementia in her later years, she never forgot her family or friend’s face or names, her obituary said.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, she is survived by a daughter, Wendy Weller, who runs Weller's; a brother, Jack Hendrix; a granddaughter and a grandson, and several great grandsons, nephews and a cousin.
She was preceded in death by her son, James, and her daughter, Judy.
Friends and family are invited to attend her memorial celebration service on July 10 at 3 p.m. at Weller’s Carriage House. Remembrances can be made to the VFW, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity or the Boy Scouts of America.

My prayers and sympathies to the Weller family. I never knew the story of how Wellers became the wonderful event venue it is today, but I will never forget our wedding day there, May 26, 2001. Now I know who started it all! Your mom must have been a very special woman indeed.
