Manchester High School Top Scholars

Manchester High School held its 2011 graduation ceremonies Sunday, June 5 in the high school gym. The class had 98 graduates.

Melissa Bazydlo

Parents: Janine and Paul Bazydlo

Activities and Awards: Melissa is currently president of Spanish club, a mentor to seven freshman girls and vice president of Key Club. She is also an active volunteer of Chelsea Community Hospital and Gleaner’s Food Pantry. Melissa was one of two students awarded for her community service, which totals over 500 hours. She also participates in drama club, 4-H, Quiz Bowl and National Honor Society at Manchester High School.

Plans after graduation: Melissa plans to attend New York University to study biology and Spanish and later become a bilingual doctor.

Camille Hicken

Parents: Allen and Alisa Hicken

Activities and Awards: Camille is secretary of the student council, participates in National Honor Society and is also a mentor to seven freshmen. She has also participated in the drama club for three years, ranging from student directing to playing leading roles. Camille also holds leading positions in her youth group and is heavily involved in her church.

Plans after graduation: Camille plans to attend Brigham Young University in Utah where she will study human development psychology and music.

Eleni Kastanis

Parents: Bill and Debra Kastanis

Activities and Awards: Eleni is the president of Manchester’s National Honor Society. She is also her class secretary, as well as the secretary of her high school Key Club. Eleni also holds a volunteer position at Manchester’s SASHA Farms. When she is at school she helps underclassmen in the Mentor Program. Recently Eleni was recognized by her school and the community resource center for her outstanding volunteer service and was a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Plans after graduation: Eleni plans on attending the University of Michigan and study pre-medicine and psychology.

Jessie Sahakian

Parents: Jim and Dee Dee Sahakian

Activities and Awards: During her years at Manchester High School, Jessie has participated in National Honor Society, student council, Quiz Bowl and drama club. She has also been part of the Key Club, where she was the president; Jessie has also participated in the high school’s symphony/marching band for three years. She has received the Harmony Award from the band. This past summer, Jessie was one of the delegates to the Michigan American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. She also has volunteered at the Chelsea Community Hospital Pharmacy for the past two summers.

Plans after graduation: Jessie plans to attend the University of Michigan; she will study political science in the hopes of eventually becoming an attorney.

Scott Wharam

Parents: Tom and Helen Wharam

Activities and Awards: Scott received All-Conference honorable mention for basketball, received the Coach’s award twice in basketball and named all-conference Academic. He was varsity track captain and scholar athlete for track and basketball. He played varsity track for four years, four years basketball where he helped lead the Dutch to a basketball district championship. Scott is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Presidential Scholarship at Kalamazoo College.

Plans after graduation: Scott plans to attend Kalamazoo College and study mathematics.
