Ann Arbor police arrested a man accused of intentionally setting this truck on fire.

A Monroe man was taken into custody Friday after Ann Arbor police say he deliberately burned a pickup truck outside an urgent care facility near the intersection of East Stadium Boulevard and South Industrial Highway.

The 30-year-old man was taken to a psychiatric unit at the University of Michigan Hospital for evaluation, police said.

So far, no charges have been filed. Police say the man hoped the fire would distract employees at the facility so he could attempt to commit another crime. Officials declined to elaborate.

Police say the fire is not related to a string of suspicious vehicle fires in Ann Arbor that date back several months.

@joanp Pl,PD should cover this type of damage. If not check with your homeowners or renter's policy.

I took clownfish's question to be directed at the news desk itself, not the other commenter. It is a legitimate one. Over half of the site's "news" coverage--and seemingly including this one-- involves no actual reporting but merely transcribing or copying and pasting press releases from other organizations. Of course, these types of articles are almost better in some ways because unlike the "reporters" of this "blog" the PR people at various organizations know how to write a grammatically and stylistically correct sentence.

If you READ the article the reason for the fire being set is a diversion to commit another crime. I have no idea why A2.com didn't report this. I only know things from my perspective. The guy didn't know this was "MY" truck it was a diversion. We are not able to list ALL the details especially since this is an active investigation. I was a victim so mister non-believer can make sure he reads a little more careful next time

1. If this is true, how did this guy know this was your truck? 2. If this is true, he just happened to have an accelerant lying around to start a fire of that magnitude? 3. If this is true, and I do disagree with the A^2.com runs this message board on MANY levels, but their reporting is usually very accurate, how was this small detail left out? Until I see proof of what joanp is saying, I am a nonbeliever.

If what joanp says is true, how is it that A2.com did not know about this from on-site reporting?

That was my truck, it used to have a cover on the back but that had already burnt off by the time the pic was taken. I had plpd and now am out a vehicle. I turned the patient away because we didn't accept his insurance and he didn't want to pay cash. He didn't even seem upset. I gave him directions to another urgent care in the area and I thought he left until he came back in to tell me a truck was on fire in the parking lot. crazy! its so unbelievable!

I'm guessing in the days of yore, a reporter would be sent out to photograph this scene and only make it out to see the extinguished flames. No bumper stickers on the back to pinpoint what the man may have been angry about?
