The first annual Pittsfield Pee Wee Olympics took place at Lillie Park on Sunday. More than 40 participants enjoyed eight different kid-friendly events, face painting, and touring a police cruiser and fire truck. Among the events were weightlifting, jousting, shot put, gymnastics, and more.
University of Michigan student Becca Mitchell and recent graduate Nick Walker-Craig were motivated during a Development Summer Internship Program orientation to "do the most good you can in two hours with $20." They offered their help and services to Pittsfield Parks and Recreation, and the event was born.
Recreation Coordinator Kim McIntire, creator of the Pee Wee Olympics, says there are a number of benefits to the event. "It's a fun activity to get the kids outside to exercise and be part of the community," she said.
The event was open to children ages 1-5 and everyone received a blue ribbon and juice.
