Guernsey Farms Dairy founder John McGuire dies at 103
John McGuire, 103, founder of the more than 70-year-old Guernsey Farms Dairy, has died, the Observer & Eccentric reports.
The dairy’s products are sold throughout southeast Michigan, including in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. It's also been a regional destination for school field trips.
Bob Sparrow, owner of Sparrow Market in Ann Arbor’s Kerrytown Market and Shops, said Guernsey milk is the only brand his store carries.
“All I drink is Guernsey,” he said. “I don’t care what it costs. We’ve had the same driver forever. It’s just real good stuff. There’s something different about it. I don’t know what it is. It’s just good and consistent.”
McGuire, who had 14 children, taught his family and employees the importance of quality products and a good work ethic, his son and daughter told the newspaper.

I believe I now need to go visit the restaurant in Northville for lunch and have a Chocomalt Chip in memory of Mr. McGuire.

I just read the article from the link above. Wow, he did a lot didn't he? I also did not know that Northville is where he has an ice cream place. I thought I saw other ice cream shops with their name on it. O well, good luck to the family. They won't want for much.

Hello, My name is David and I'm an addict. I have been addicted to Guernsey Farms ice cream for about 10 years. I am helplessly and, yet hopefully addicted. Their Buttered Pecan and Chocolate are so good and I keep Vanilla for use with fruits and pies a la mode. I think it is the high butter fat content but it truly is special. R.I.P. Mr. McGuire. And I love the Egg Nog!

And it is readily available at Kroger's and Busch's! I also am unable to drive by their outlet in Northville without getting a cone or a sundae!

Guernsey Farms' products are the best. My family's 1st choice in dairy products. Their eggnog, available during the holidays, is delicious. Thanks to the McGuire family and staff at Guernsey Farms for the excellent dairy products they provide.

What is it about farmers, they live almost forever! I'm from a farming community and all of the really hard working farmers live to be very old. Its always sad when someone passes but it sounds like Mr. McGuire had a nice long, fulfilling life.

My favorite chocolate milk is Guernsey, and I buy it every Saturday at Sparrow Market. It is the best, most delicious chocolate milk I have ever had, and I love it. I've wondered about the origin of this wonderful treat, but didn't have time to research it. Now I know the story, and I really enjoyed reading about John McGuire who is quite a remarkable business and family man. I will head over to Sparrow Market today, buy some Guernsey chocolate milk and raise a toast to Mr. John McGuire.
