Despite the damage to the state's apple crop, the Dexter Cider Mill opened for the season in late August and is ready for its 126th year.

Owner Richard Koziski found some apples from a supplier in West Michigan to buy for cider-making.

The result is a sweet cider, Koziski told Patch. The cost also will be higher, but Koziski said it lets him keep the cider tradition alive in Dexter.

Always buy my cider at the grocery store. Much cheaper then this place. Although the doughnuts are not half bad. Just like everything else this season, food prices just keep going up and up. I did see huge white pumpkins near Middlebelt and Sibly. Looks like something took.

....and they have never resorted to saying they have a "horse drawn cider mill'. I've gone to the Mill since I was a child, always remains a great place for cider and donuts.

Be prepared for $9 gallon cider. It's better than last year, but twice the price.

For that price I can go to the grocery store get 2 gallons and a package of doughnuts. Won't see me there any time soon. That is grocery money.

The Dexter Cider Mill is terrific. The owners are fantastic and the products are awesome. I love the doughnuts and cider. We like to stop in before tailgate.

I am certainly glad to read this news. I was certain that the Dexter Cider Mill would be closed this season. OTH: while it's the oldest cider mill in the state, is it the best? I'd be interested in seeing some research on this. I noticed a distinct difference between the Dexter mill's cider and those produced at other mills (e.g., Franklin Cider Mill and one north of Lansing on US 127).

Tru- I'm glad as well, when I drove by last weekend and noticed they weren't open yet I began to worry. As one who has been to over two dozen mills in the state I can say that they do have some of my personal favorite donuts and cider. Then again, taste is a personal preference topic, so to each his own.
