As a board member, Fulton will help make general policy and budget recommendations concerning the state library to the Michigan Department of Education. Fulton will represent librarians from a special library and replaces Elaine Logan.

Judy Hauser, of Waterford, also was appointed to the board.

"Tara and Judy are outstanding, experienced professionals, and are great choices for this board," Snyder said in a statement.

Before joining the EMU library, Fulton was dean of library and information services and associate vice president for academic affairs at Lock Haven University, and associate director of library and information services at Bucknell University, both in Pennsylvania.

The appointees will serve three-year terms that expire Oct. 1, 2015.

The Library of Michigan began in 1828 and has since grown. Library collections housed at the Michigan Library and Historical Center in downtown Lansing total more than 3 million hardcover books, bound periodical volumes and government documents.
