What about Applebees' Carside to Go Service. Does bringing take-out food out to the curb qualify for tipping?

The server bringing out your food, still has to put it together, come to you take your payment no matter the weather. and since their base pay is below minimum wage, the tips is where most of their income come from.

i don't know about applebees but i was a server at another restaurant and i didn't get paid differently when i was assigned to do to-go, and yet i hardly ever got tipped...i didn't get other tables, just did take out, but i still only got paid like 2 something/hr because i was a server and was supposed to get tipped but i don't think people understood that. also when i did get tipped it was usually not based on a percentage of the bill total. so i always tip in those circumstances, but not usually in tip jars.

It depends on if you can afford to and if you'd like to. I am sure the server would be very appreciative, and perhaps remember you for next time.

"It's like dinner at a restaurant. You don't go if you can't afford to tip." Servers in a restaurant are paid below minimum wage, their salary is dependent on tips. You are paying part of their salary. Servers in establishment like Starbucks make minimum or more. Could you put a tip jar out where you work?

The employees at Starbucks and most other coffee shops or deli's get paid at least minimum wage and I don't feel like they always need a tip. However, at restaurants the servers are only paid 2something an hour Plus tips.

If you're a service employee, sure why not? Except many restaurants, shops, etc. don't allow the employees to have one. I made minimum wage at a downtown fast food restaurant and we had a tip jar. Myself and other employees often relied on our meager earnings from it to supplement our meager wages. Minimum wage doesn't even cover the cost of living. Have a heart.

My wife says: "It's like dinner at a restaurant. You don't go if you can't afford to tip." She hopes people such as myself never end up in customer service dependent upon the good will of others. She's a softy what can I say?

I never put a tip in the (tip jars) anywhere. If I do tip anyone, it is from my hand to theirs. As far as other donation canisters, (on a counter) I won't leave a donation there either. To many get ripped off. NO GMC, you are not alone in feeling annoyed.

These Starbucks are real hot beds for Crime in Ann Arbor! Maybe we should close this type of place down since it seems to bring in the criminal element to our town!

and the establishment's prices have what to do with the service provided by the employee and whether or not YOU choose to thank them monetarily? Ignore them like I do, simple.

Am I the only one annoyed with tip jars? The prices in most of these establishments are already exorbitant and the person behind the counter is simply making and handing you the product for which you already overpaid.
