Rare books stolen from West Side Book Shop, Ann Arbor police say

By Lee Higgins

Several rare books were reported stolen Tuesday from a display case at West Side Book Shop on West Liberty Street, Ann Arbor police said.

The books were taken between noon Saturday and 9 a.m. Tuesday, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.

They include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There and a book by Desiderius Erasmus, police said.

Police did not have an estimated value of the books, which were in a display case in the middle of the store.

Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.

Bad Karma. I feel for the owner's loss and stealing is wrong but so was ripping me off! I had the misfortune of selling two rare books to him and the next week they were proudly displayed in his window for 10 x the amount I sold them for. But being the forgiving person that I am, I truly hope his books are returned with a lesson too of how it feels to be taken advantage of. Stealing is wrong, no matter which way it goes. On the upside, I found the right people in this town to trust and deal rare books with but it was a hard lesson.

I am quite sure our criminals didn't commit this crime as they are unable to read and have trouble with picture books.

Watch Ebay sales for these titles . . . it is the best venue to sell something rare for the highest price and you might be able to identify these particular volumes as belonging to the business.
