The Circle K was closed Wednesday after a semi struck the building.

A semi-truck got a little too close to an Ann Arbor gas station on Wednesday morning, damaging the building and forcing it to close for a time.

The truck hit the building at 1420 E. Stadium Blvd. at about 6:45 a.m.

The driver pulled into the parking lot of the gas station from East Stadium, but part of the trailer clipped the awning along the roof of the building, said Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush.

The driver told police he misjudged the distance of the building from the semi, Bush said.

No injuries were reported in the incident, but Ann Arbor Fire officials were called to the scene to evaluate whether the building was structurally sound.

Employees of the gas station were not available Wednesday morning to comment.

Semi trucks are getting bigger and bigger. They often have cars backing up at intersections to allow them to make turns. STOP the roundabout scheduled to be built in 2013 at Ellsworth and State. The huge semis won't be able to get around it.

I hate to say this but even the buses are getting bigger too. Glad there was no boom today.

You are wrong. I don't think there have been any laws to increase the length or girth of semi trucks in at least 15, probably more years. The roundabouts are built with the semis in mind. For example the one at Nixon and Huron Parkway has ample area in the median that is generally not considered the road but is designed such that trucks with trailers can go up on it to use for making the curve.

Love the Halloween themed orange traffic "cone" in the picture.

That building looks so much better without the big red facade.
