Apple fans lined up at stores around the world to get the iPhone 4S, which went on sale today, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Ann Arbor iPhone enthusiasts were no exception. About 60 people were waiting to get the latest version of the phone outside the AT&T store on Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor when it opened at 9 a.m., a store employee said.

Customers were also waiting outside the Apple store at Briarwood Mall when it opened an employee said, and there was still a line of about two dozen people at 10:20 a.m.

Dozens of people lined up outside a store in Tokyo, waiting for its 7:45 a.m. opening, the Journal reported. The company had distributed numbered tickets the day before to let customers claim the first 50 handsets for sale.

Some customers said they wanted the 4S because it's the last device that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs helped bring to market. Jobs died Oct. 5, one day after the unveiling of the 4S.

You have to be an Apple lover to understand the passion that is associated with using their products ;-) I, too, have never owned anything but a Mac, but I've never stood in line just to be the first to own one of their devices.

The funny thing about stating apple fans are sheep is that more "sheep" seem to buy window related items, even though it really just doesn't work as well as apple related items. So I guess we know which sheep use their brains more. lol Anyways, I didn't upgrade to this one. I'll wait until the next body style revision. 3.5 is a bit small for me with regards to screen. Siri does get me a bit excited, but I'll wait. @Mike, you sound like you should be on Fox News. If someone has money for things you don't want or can't buy, they MUST be poor people living off tax payers. APPLE buyers = poor? holy moly batman lol Never owned any computer other than a mac. From the very start of Apple. But also didn't buy everything they make either.

Not that I'd wait in line for one but it's their gig. No crime in that. At least they're passionate about something and not yet so bitter or cynical.

Some people have nothing better to do than wait in line for it while other people are at home commenting on the people waiting in line for it.

I get that it's a cool phone but I just don't understand why people stand it line for it. http://thelifeofjwo.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/waiting-in-line-am-i-missing-something/

This is good. These people needed to get out and enjoy some fresh air. It will also give their parents time to clean the basement; turn off the tv; and clean doritos out of the couch!

Hmm

I was going to call these people lemmings but that would be an insult to lemmings

@Mike: That's a whole lotta speculation going on there. The national average unemployment check is about $270 a week and Mich maxes at something on the order of $362. If you pay rent or a mortgage and plan to eat on a weekly basis, there's not much discretionary income there. More power to the Apple lovers, at least someone is spending on consumer goods.

I know a number of people who won't tke jobs because it would mean they get less money by working. And yes they do purchase the latest technology and spend their money on internet service. You are speculating that they pay rent and pay for food.

What a sign of the times. People who in some cases get their incomes in the form of unemployment and other aid will buy these things. Lot's of very young faces in that picture; where are they getting the money? Are these the same people who would support the "destroy wall street" crowd? I don't get it.....................

Looks to me like a bunch of high school kids looking to get the latest toy. Not sure you'd get much of a response if you asked them about the protests going on. The response I envision you getting based on the above photo: "Dude, I got this money washing dishes. 'Destroy Wall Street', is that a Pink Floyd Album? My parents listen to them."
