Police are looking for 33-year-old Matthew Eric Varnum, who was reported missing at 10 a.m. Wednesday from a treatment facility near the intersection of South State Street and Eisenhower Parkway.

Varnum's medical condition may cause him to faint, police said. He likes to walk long distances and may be seeking a peaceful wooded area, police said.

Varnum is described as white, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with green eyes and sandy-colored hair. He has a MedicAlert necklace and was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans and black shoes.

Anyone with information can call Det. Gerry Tacey at (734) 794-6930, ext. 49319.

Really and I would like to know what kind of security this treatment facility is using. Patients in that kind of need should never be let out of the building unsupervised. I am glad everything turned out ok but, I think his family should reassess his treatment options. Or, in the at the very least have a long talk with the head of the treatment center about what happened.

Praise God Matt has been found. He was spotted at the train station in Kalamazoo, MI by a friend waiting to board a train to Jackson, MI. The police were called and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital. He was able to speak to his wife on the phone. "Thank you" to all who have searched and prayed.

By the way -- by walking miles, I mean like maybe 20 -25 miles in half a day....This is important since folks should be keeping an eye out in Dexter, Chelsea, Etc....not just Ann Arbor, and why the news story was released to the Detroit media as well....

I know this patient. The location this started at doesn't matter in this instance -- this client takes long long walks for miles -- the problem here is the fugue state/confusion, not where he started from. He won't be found anywhere near the program he walked away from...

THANK YOU!! My Husband works in an apartment complex where a number of residents are closed head injury patients. When this story first came up I called to tell him, but had no idea how close it actually was to his job site just told him to let maintenance staff know there is a person missing. His job site that has woods on it too! Gonna call him with more information!

Just saying he walked away from "treatment" provides people with nothing. Usually listing where somebody was last seen is pretty standard information when "reporting" on a missing person case....because it is very useful.

Typically, it is useful information to know where the "walk" started.
