Police estimated southbound U.S. 23 was to remain closed until 7 p.m. Monday after a semi truck loaded with gardening books rolled over near Brighton earlier in the afternoon.

"The trailer is 52-feet long and was loaded with gardening books, which weigh a lot," Michigan State Police Sgt. Mark Thompson said in a news release. "(They) have to be loaded off before trailer is uprighted."

As of 5:20 p.m., southbound U.S. 23 was still down to one lane. At approximately 5:25 p.m., it was scheduled to be closed entirely as cleanup crews attempted to upright the trailer.

More cleanup was planned after crews got the truck up.

The semi rolled over on U.S. 23 near the eastbound ramp of Interstate 96 in Livingston County around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to the state police.

The driver suffered unknown injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
