Try something new: Crazy Character Party, Friday at Yellow Barn

Ever wanted to be someone else? Give it a try on Friday by checking out this off-the-beaten-path event: The Crazy Character Party at The Yellow Barn.

The rules, as stated on the party's Facebook event listing:

1. Create your own character - Anything, anything, doesn't even have to be human. No restraints as long as it's yours - no swiping from literature or film. Give your character some thought so you really know how it moves, give it history, dress, attitudes. Have a viable reason for how you stumbled across Yellow Barn.

2. Become that character - Before arriving, maybe a block or two away, be transforming already. Don't go by your real name or identity throughout the entire evening, no need to feel shy, most people won't know you from your daily life anyway. But really, why should that matter when you don't even exist.

3. Stay in character - Refrain from breaking, suspend disbelief with a crowd of strangers who are stranger than they appear. Interact (or don't), do your thang, say what's on your mind, improvise to your heart's content. Meet people you might never meet again.

4. Leave in character - OR stay until the party ends, watch characters break, re-meet.

AND

5. Only come if you intend to abide by these rules. Yes, this is a party, but it's a party with a mission we can totally work.

Crazy Character Party: Friday, Aug. 28 at The Yellow Barn, 416 W. Huron St. Optional $5 donation. 18+. 10 p.m. theyellowbarn@gmail.com.

For more fringe-y fun at The Yellow Barn, check out Bizarre Dance on Saturday, featuring acoustic indie-folk by Holly Mae And The Painted Room and a "bizarre walk" that leads up to cello-rap fusion performed in Nickels Arcade. The same basic details apply as with the Crazy Character Party, except this event begins at 9 p.m..

Coming soon to the 'Barn, experimental film event Hott Lava on Friday, Sept. 11. More on that in this AnnArbor.com Hott Lava preview.
