Hema Karunakaram of Saline High School competed in the "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament semifinals on Monday.

Heading into the "Final Jeopardy" round on tonight's episode, Karunakaram faced long odds: She had won $4,600 on the night, while her two competitors had $23,000 and $19,800.

The "Final Jeopardy" answer — from the category "The Old Testament" — was: "He was given the armor, helmet and sword of the first king of Israel, but refused to use them." Karunakaram incorrectly responded, "Who is Moses?" but the two other semifinalists both correctly responded, "Who is David?" She had bet her entire bankroll, leaving her in third place for the night.

Still, Karunakaram beat out thousands of contestants just to get into the tournament. And for making it to the semifinal round, she earns $10,000.

The semifinals continue on Tuesday and Wednesday; a two-night finals round runs on Thursday and Friday. Locally, "Jeopardy!" airs at 7:30 p.m. on WDIV, channel 4 in Detroit.
