The Huron Players will present Arthur Miller's "The Crucible."

Thanks to Halloween — and Delaware's Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell's recent, viral-hit campaign commercial — witches are on the radar a lot these days.

So it seems a masterly stroke of timing that Huron High School's Huron Players are now staging Arthur Miller's classic play "The Crucible." Eastern Michigan University's Pam Cardell directs the production, with performances at 7:30 p.m. on October 29-30 and November 5-6 at HHS's Little Theater, 2727 Fuller Road.

Set in 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, and based on historical people and real events, the play focuses on a group of teen girls who are caught conjuring love potions. Panicked, they claim Satan invaded them and forced them to participate in the rites, and then, the girls are forced to name those involved.

Thrown into the mix are greedy preachers and other major landowners who are trying to steal others' land, as well as a young woman who's infatuated with a married man and determined to get rid of his innocent wife. (Miller wrote the play as a parable of McCarthyism in 1950's America.)

Tickets — $8 general, $6 for students and seniors — will be available at the door 30 minutes before each performance. For more information, call 734-994-2095.
