Dogfish Head announces Miles Davis brew; pork industry seeks new slogan

Huffington Post: Dogfish Head Unveils Miles Davis-Inspired Beer, Bitches Brew Maryland-based brewery Dogfish Head has announced a new beer, inspired by the groundbreaking Miles Davis album "Bitches Brew." The beer will be released on Aug. 31, and commemorates the 40th anniversary of the release of the classic jazz album.

NPR: Pork's 'Other White Meat' Slogan May Be On Way Out The National Pork Board has announced that they are searching for a slogan to replace "The Other White Meat" with hopes that it will spur lagging sales.

New York Times Can Pickle Juice Stop Muscle Cramps? Sports trainers have been prescribing pickle juice to athletes to counteract the effects of muscle cramps for several years, believing that the salty liquid replaces fluids and minerals lost to perspiration. Researchers at Brigham Young University recently ran a series of tests that seem to confirm that pickle juice does alleviate the effects of muscle cramping, though the jury is still out on why it works.

AP Researcher finds lax food safety in restaurants Researchers who used video cameras to observe food safety habits in restaurant kitchens have determined that many workers aren't being careful enough to avoid cross-contamination with food prep tools and linens.

"Cross-contamination happens when pathogens, such as salmonella and E. coli, are transferred from raw food or contaminated source to already prepared food. For example, when a cook uses the same knife to first cut raw chicken and then to slice a sandwich."
