The Detroit daily newspapers have weighed in on "The Seafarer," the current production at Performance Network, and both critics were suitably impressed.

For The Detroit News, Lawrence B. Johnson says, "Performance Network imbues this intoxicated affair with a bizarre equilibrium," and I think that's a good thing. In the Free Press, John Monaghan says, "Director Malcolm Tulip and his all-male cast deliver characters that go beyond the pickled Irish stereotype."

If you missed it, AnnArbor.com's Jenn McKee also found the play to be very well done.

COMICS

• Iconic DC Comics character Wonder Woman has a completely new costume, the Washington Post reports. (Check out the brief image gallery and get a chuckle out of her short-lived hipster 1960s look.) And another Post writer has some thoughts on the meaning of the new look.

MUSIC

• Awesome: The Detroit News previews "American Idols Live" at the Palace by interviewing runner-up Crystal Bowersox of Toledo — and she objects to the name of a certain other regional music venue just as much as I do.

• Well, this is different. Aretha Franklin will perform with Condoleeza Rice (who is apparently an accomplished pianist) in Philadelphia.

• Isn't enough enough? Weird Al Yankovic performs at Meadow Brook on Saturday.

• YouTube has a taste of Bettye LaVette's appearance at The Ark on Sunday:

ART & EXHIBITS

• Michael Hodges of The Detroit News takes a look at "Detroit Disassembled" at the Akron Art Museum.

Lady Gaga posed for a Polaroid at the MIT Museum, which recently acquired a number of Polaroid inventions.

TELEVISION

• If you just can't wait for the real thing, MTV.com reports on a trailer for the second season of "Jersey Shore."

• The Boston Herald is among those wondering who will replace Larry King.
