Last time on "The Biggest Loser" (3-minute recap):
Having shed more than 2,500 pounds, this season of "The Biggest Loser" comes to a close with a live finale. Ashley and Michael, previously the heaviest female and male contestants of the season, qualified for the finale as of last episode. The first reveal of the night was the result of the viewer vote, determining the third person competing for the title of "Biggest Loser" and the $250,000 prize: Daris or Koli.
Before those results came in, Koli and Daris strutted their stuff in sharp suits — and Daris, previously lacking the confidence to date, proudly introduced his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Koli explained the difference between cockiness and swagger. But let's get to the action: the winner of America's vote was Daris. Koli joined the rest of the season's castoffs to vie for the $100,000 at-home prize.
Next, season 8 alum Shay Sorrells, who arrived at the ranch the heaviest female hopeful at 476 pounds and shed 172 pounds by the end of the season, gave an update on her Subway challenge. That is, the sandwich purveyors offered her $1,000 per pound lost leading up to this season's finale. In the intervening months (season 8 ended in early December), Shay dropped another 52 pounds. Subway's own "Biggest Loser," Jared Fogle, presented her with a blank check and a new challenge: to train hard and then complete a marathon with him, at which point she'll win $104,000 (double the value of what she would've won tonight).
The at-home hopefuls' weigh-ins were revealed in groups of four. Sherry, finalist Ashley's mom, shed 99 pounds (a whopping 45.41%) and was the one to beat leading up to the last at-home foursome. Ann Arbor hopefuls, father and daughter team Darrell and Andrea Hough were among the final group, with Darrell working the stage and Andrea radiant in a red carpet-worthy gown and new haircut. Alison asked Darrell what it was like to see Andrea's transformation, to which he replied, "This is the best thing that could ever happen to a dad. To see the transformation ... it means so much."
With 19 weeks of diet and exercise under her belt, Andrea lost 84 pounds (28.19%), putting her current weight at 214 pounds. And Darrell, once the contender with the most health issues, proved to be a dark horse competitor. Having lost 189 pounds (45.76%), he bumped off Sherry as the at-home hopeful to lose the highest percentage of weight. The only thing standing between Darrell and the $100,000 prize were the results of Koli, Sam and Cheryl (finalist Daris' mother)'s weigh-ins.
Keeping the suspense until the final weigh-in, Koli edged out Darrell for the at-home prize, shedding 188 pounds (53.35%). Money or no money, the Houghs and the other hopefuls inspired countless people around the country and beyond to reshape their lives.
With the $250,000 prize and the "Biggest Loser" title on the line, Daris lost 168 pounds (48.55%). That wasn't enough to beat Ashley, who shed 183 pounds (48.93%). But in the end, the hopeful who had the most weight to lose was the one to lose the most weight: Michael lost 264 pounds (50.19%). Here's to the contenders' hard work all season and here's hoping they successfully apply what they learned at the ranch to their day-to-day lives.

Our family got hooked on "Biggest Loser" this season. We felt like we really got to know the contestants. Many times we were in tears as we listened to their stories and struggles. Our favorite team was O'Neal & Sunshine, but we were routing for fellow Ann Arborites Darrell & Drea, also!
