On-site hotel at University of Michigan hospital to close for month-long renovation project
The University of Michigan Health System plans to temporarily close an on-site hotel serving families that need to be close to relatives who are undergoing treatment.
Officials said the 30-room Med Inn Hotel would close May 1 for a month-long renovation project. It's part of a broader $17.7 million expansion of the hospital's emergency room.
The U-M Health System said that while the hotel is closed, the hospital will work with patients' families to help them find other nearby accommodations.
"They will make every effort to reduce inconveniences caused by the shutdown," U-M Health System says on its website.
U-M's Wilmot House and Transplant House will be available for family members of patients in the intensive care unit and some surgery patients. The health system said that it has alerted local hotels about the situation.
The Med Inn Hotel is getting a new fire suppression system and improvements affecting about 6,000 square feet of space.

Throughout the month-long closure, the Patient and Visitor Hotel Accommodations Program will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing the same level of service our patients and visitors have come to expect. The Patient and Visitor Hotel Accommodations Program has assisted on average more than 700 patients and visitors each month since its launch in 2006. Hotel staff will be at the Med Inn front desk, and they will help locate and reserve hotel accommodations for UMHS patients, families and visitors. Wilmot House, traditionally for patients receiving care through Radiation/Oncology and Transplant House for patients receiving transplants and their families will not be displaced. We will make every effort to reduce any inconvenience caused by the temporary shutdown. Alfreda R. I think the charitable Ronald McDonald house for children patients' parents a block away should also have been mentioned.

Anyone know if this will affect the sleep clinic on the seventh floor?
