When Vicki Honeyman isn't busy cutting hair or helping a customer pick out an outfit at Heavenly Metal on East Ann Street in Ann Arbor, there's a whole laundry list of tasks that keep her plenty busy.

There's unloading and stocking the shelves with footwear, arranging jewelry display cases and finding new and creative ways to arrange the quaint Kerrytown shop to keep up with its "a new store everyday" slogan.

Being Heavenly Metal's sole employee for the majority of the nine years the store has been open, Honeyman never had the time to partake in a jewelry making workshop a friend offered in Indiana.

Three months ago, Honeyman finally hired a full-time employee, went to the workshop, and now she's just as busy all over again making her own line of necklaces.

"I decided to stay in Saturday, started working on some things, next thing you know it's four in the morning," Honeyman said. "My hands just felt at home (making jewelry)."

With the skills she learned in her trip to the Art Farm in Indiana, Honeyman began reconfiguring pieces of jewelry that hadn't sold in the store and combining them with original craftsmanship and charms to make necklaces with her own twist. She's coined the jewelry line "reworks by vicki".

"While I’m doing it I’m thinking about how my customers really like my aesthetics, so I came up with some kind of stuff, brought it in and the first day on the first hour I sold two pieces," Honeyman said. "I thought 'wow', I should keep doing this, so I kept making stuff and I finally have a good body of work to show."

Heavenly Metal is filled with silk scarves, trinkets, books, patio decorations, jewelry and just about everything in between. Honeyman also offers haircuts in her shop.

Honeyman said her line of necklaces are inspired by the some of the artists around Heavenly Metal, particularly "Elements" by Jill Schwartz.

Already a hit with customers, Honeyman plans to eventually add the necklaces to her online offerings as well.
