The Blockbuster video rental store at 1145 S. Main St. in Chelsea will be closing at the end of March, a store employee said.

The sales representative said the store will close for good on March 24. Rentals at the location ended Feb. 2. The store will continue to offer DVDs and Blu-rays for sale until the final closing day.

Blockbuster closed stores in Ann Arbor and Saline in 2011 and 2012. Blockbuster's largest brick-and-mortar competitor in the county used to be Hollywood Video, the chain closed its last store in Washtenaw County in 2010.

With the closing, the only remaining Blockbuster store in the county will be at 2547 Ellsworth Road in Ypsilanti Township.

Netflix in Michigan is based in Lansing and they are tough on their workers. They have strict quotas about mailing.

Can't say I'm sad to see the corporation suffer. This is must deserved but late karma for them. The only people I feel sorry for are those they employed in their retail locations who will now be out of jobs.

I will not be surprised to see the Ellsworth store close soon.
