Ann Arbor's newest yoga retreat 'Be in Awe' seeks to inspire

By Angela Smith

When it comes to awe-inspiring places, the Swiss Alps are at the top of the list for Jody Tull.

Tull, who recently opened a yoga studio at 1632 Broadway St. in Ann Arbor, organizes a yoga trip there once a year for what she calls a “being” experience.

Tull wanted a daily reminder of the feeling she gets in the Alps and thus christened her new studio Be in Awe.

“We have the capacity, as we become more present, to be in awe,” said Tull, a yoga practitioner, teacher, and massage therapist. The name serves as a daily reminder to appreciate what inspires her, Tull said.

Tull fell in love with the studio space even before she was able to transform it into the sanctuary it is now. She knew that the building held some history as a turn-of-the-century home with some healing and nourishing traditions. Now, the space has a beautiful screened porch, a fire pit, a stone wall, and space for weekly classes, workshops, treatments and gatherings.

Be In Awe’s specialization is group workshops. Tull has created personalized programs for groups of colleagues and friends who are looking for an opportunity to reconnect and reduce stress.

Among the other offerings are naked voice singing, Thai yoga massage and training for both massage and yoga instructors. Be In Awe plans to begin offering open classes in May. There are also classes that do not require any extended physical mobility.

I have experienced the Be in Awe retreat that sits quietly tucked away in the woods above Cedar Bend. We were sitting in the garden, Jody and I, and saw three deer watching us. Quite an experience for city life. We have a great place to "Be" in Ann Arbor. This space, Be in Awe retreat, is really special and has a nourishing energy. Whatever you do there, from a Thai yoga massage (like no other), or sitting quietly in the garden, Be in Awe and Jody of course, will rejuvenate you and get your positive energy flowing!
