With the weather forecast calling for a "wintry mix" of freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow, it seems only reasonable to look for recipes to go with that forecast. Here are a few from around the net - some savory, some sweet - to get you through the storm.

Savory mix

A recipe from the Fayetteville (Arkansas) Flyer describes a wintry mix of roasted sweet potatoes and turnips on greens with a honey mustard vinaigrette.

Susie Middleton, a cook who lives off the coast of New England, put together a tuscan kale with orange-maple-balsamic sauce. Tuscan kale - also known as dinosaur kale or lacinato in local markets - is relatively cold-hardy, and can be found growing in area hoop houses this time of year.

Deb Perelman's Smitten Kitchen features a wintry mix inspired baked potato soup, with leeks and garlic for flavor and baked potato inspired toppings.

Sweet mix

In 2007, Chex brought out a short lived Winter Chex Mix, featuring mini marshmallows and cocoa flavored cereal. A search to see if it was still for sale came up blank.

Group Recipes, a recipe index which does a good job to help people collaborate to make new recipes, has a collected several pages of puppy chow Chex - recipes which feature chocolate and peanut butter in the cereal mix, with a dusting of powdered sugar to provide the winter theme.
