The lights are on a timer that turns off at 11 p.m.

West Park Conditions: The entire park is under construction. On the rendering of the new park, over the Tennis Courts it states, "Tennis Courts to Remain." While it can be factored out of your current tennis plans, the renovations look awesome. These courts should be worth the trip when construction is completed. Ypsilanti

Candy Cane Park The two courts at this park currently don't have nets and are in poor condition. Unless the city gets new equipment and does some work on the surface, don't plan to play tennis here. The best alternative is to drive the short distance to Ypsilanti High School.

Burns Park (Ypsilanti) Courts: 2 Condition: One is fair, one is unplayable due to grass Bathrooms/drinking fountain: No/No Atmosphere: The park is in a relatively quiet area in Ypsilanti with a playground. Wind/sun protection: Good wind protection with trees and houses all around. No shade. Hitting wall: No Notes: With a few hours of weed-wacking and attention from the Ypsi parks workers, both courts could be usable.

Clubview Park Courts: 2 Condition: Good Bathrooms/drinking fountain: No/No Atmosphere: Nice, quiet neighborhood, though there is some noise from I-94. Plenty of open space. Wind/sun protection: Very little Hitting wall: No Notes: A nice place to play in the Ypsilanti area.

Ypsilanti High School Courts: 8 Condition: Great Bathrooms/drinking fountain: Yes (but they are usually locked) / No Atmosphere: Sitting next to the Ypsilanti water tower (no, not the one Ypsi's famous for), and right next to the football stadium, the courts are surprisingly noisy. The Packard traffic and construction caused some ambiant noise. Wind/sun protection: Good wind protection with trees and a few buildings on one side. No shade. Hitting wall: 4 hitting walls Intangibles: You can play a set while your 16-year-old son or daughter is nervously running over cones at the driver's training program, which always seems to have someone doing the parking test in the lot.

Pittsfield Township

Montibeller Park Courts: 4 Condition: 2 are in great condition, renovated this spring. 2 are in fair condition. Bathrooms/drinking fountain: Yes/Yes Atmosphere: Nice park with lots of open space and nature trails, some noise from Packard, Carpenter and I-94 Wind/sun protection: Very little Hitting wall: No Notes: Two courts are brand new, resurfaced in the spring, and sit atop a hill behind the fire station. The other two courts have new nets and are in definite playing condition a short walk away across a stream. The open field gives no help on windy days, and no shade is available. The two new courts are still nice to play on, and the slight breeze on less windy days will feel nice. A play structure and plenty of picnic tables, some of which are under a pavilion, offer a nice family atmosphere. Other activities include a volleyball net down the hill from the two new courts, softball/baseball fields and a nature walk.
