Alex Wunderlich qualifies for junior golf nationals and more community sports notes

Recent Huron High School graduate and Emory University-bound Alex Wunderlich won a regional qualifier last week and advanced to play in the Trusted Choice Big "I" National Championship to be held in Madison, Miss., on Aug. 1-4.
Wunderlich tied Lansing's Brian Burt for medalist honors at the weather-shortened qualifier, shooting a 70 at The Fortress Golf Course in Frankenmuth. Wunderlich won a putting contest to claim first place.
Formerly known as the IIAJC, the Big “I” Junior Classic (sponsored nationally by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America) is the largest golf tournament in the United States that results in a single champion.
BASKETBALL
Pioneer Basketball School
Pioneer boys basketball coach Rex Stanczak, his staff and Pioneer players become teachers at the Pioneer Basketball School. The camp's only remaining session is July 25-28. It focuses on shooting technique, ball handling, passing and man-to-man defense. After a lunch break each day, there will be 5-on-5 games. For more information, visit www.aareced.com.
One on One Camps
DSO Sports, in partnership with One on One Athletic Club will be providing basketball instruction to athletes throughout the summer. University of Michigan Baseball Camps
The Rich Maloney Michigan Summer Baseball Camps are taking place throughout July at the Wilpon Complex. Remaining camps focus on pitching and catching (July 24-26) and offense and infield (July 24-26). Campers will receive hands-on instruction from Michigan baseball coach Rich Maloney and his staff. EMU Baseball Tigers Camp
The Eastern Michigan baseball team and coach Jay Alexander are once again teaming up with Detroit Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones for the EMU Baseball Tigers Camp on Aug. 3-4. The camp is designed to teach baseball fundamentals such as hitting, pitching, fielding, catching and base running. The camp will feature stations and drill work for both sessions. Current Detroit Tigers Alex Avila, Brennan Boesch and Austin Jackson are expected to make special appearances at the camp. For more information, visit EMUEagles.com.

Michigan Women's Golf Academy
Michigan women's golf coach Cheryl Stacey will host the first Michigan Women's Golf Academy on July 21 to benefit the Jean Ledwith King Women's Center of Southeastern Michigan. Hosted at the Lake Forest Golf Club, the day will consist of instruction in the morning followed by a nine-hole scramble in the afternoon. Click here for more information.

Running the Rails
Running the Rails is back for its 24th year on Aug. 21 and will include a 10K run, 5K run or walk and 1/2-mile kids fun run. All races are chip timed, with the 5K and 10K on USATF-certified courses. City Tennis Tournaments
Registration for the 2011 Ann Arbor City Tennis Tournament continues. The men’s and women’s doubles tournaments are July 29-31 and the juniors singles tournament is July 28-29. Fall Ball Sign Up
Registration is now available for Ann Arbor Rec & Ed’s fall coed youth volleyball league. For boys and girls entering grades 4-9 for the 2011-12 school year, this league is designed to develop skills and have fun. There are no cuts or tryouts.
